This song is a reaction to the trump administration. The lyrics came fairly quickly in 2017. At first, I thought to write it from the perspective of a trump follower, with chorus lyrics as:
"*I* got so drunk, *I* thought *I* was going to get paid..."
Thought it might give an ex-Kool Ade drinker a confessional valve. And who of us hasn't dipped their toe into hero worship at some point in their life, only to realize it was a mistake?
But as trumpism escalated, it became clear that I couldn't feel comfortable singing the chorus that way.
I'm a Canadian who went to university in the USA. Very concerned with what's happening. Saddened and angry with the unnecessary loss of life. He and his administration is a threat to the world.

45 KOOL ADE
Words & Music Andy Warren (SOCAN)
He said:
I’ll have no time to play no golf
I’ll be working for you, all the way through
I’ll make no cash, and grab no ass
Cause that is not what presidents do
So imagine your surprise
When that is all that you can see in his eyes
Drinking the 45 kool ade
You got so drunk, you thought you were going to get paid
The 45 kool ade, but it turns out, you were being played
He said:
I know the best, people & words
I’ll build a wall, America first
and suddenly, it’s plain to see
you elected bigots & jerks
And you should not be surprised, with all of his continual lies.
Drinking the 45 kool ade
You got so drunk, you thought you were going to get paid
The 45 kool ade, it turns out, you were being played
Bait & switch, Russian puppet, man o man, I cannot stomach it
And I don’t even live in the USA!
He said:
There’s no need to see my taxes look over there and be distracted
Climate change is a hoax,
And I’m the best friend of all the black folks
Yeah, you should not be surprised, with all of his continual lies.
Drinking the 45 kool ade
You got so drunk, you thought you were going to get paid
The 45 kool ade, it turns out, we were being played
45, another lie, he’s such a stupid guy
